PREFERRED FTS MODEL

The University of Southeastern Philippines is one of the colleges that offers the course of Bachelor of Science in Information Technology. It is where I am enrolled right now. I am a third year college student in the university. Every first semester, the college offers the subject Field Trips and Seminars or also called FTS. To be able to enroll in this subject, a student should be a legitimate third year student of the Institute Computing. In this subject, the students in involved in various activities. Specifically, the student will be exposed in numbers of activities outside the campus. All of the students enrolled will attend seminars to broaden their mind and knowledge. Selected companies and establishment will be chosen to be visited which are voted by the students. So the students will choose what kind of model they are going to pick. But before I continue, let us first further discuss the purpose of this subject. We are given a model waiver to choose. Here are the exact details that are written in the waiver one by one.

First is to familiarize the student with recent trends and developments in information and communication technology thru seminars and fieldtrips as well as gain exposure. As of this generation. Advancement in technology is growing rapidly. Every year there is a new trend, new technology. This activity will help the student discover this new technology which is currently available.

Second is to equip the students with basic interpersonal skills in their chosen field of expertise thru non-technical seminars. In this subject, a student will develop his/her skill in communication with other people. Develop a good relationship with them which leads to friendship and teamwork. From what is said above, it is a non-technical seminar which means this activity focuses in in developing the student’s interpersonal skill.

From the information I mentioned, the goal or purpose of this field trips and seminars that every student enrolled will be attending concentrates in learning the fun way not to mention the experience of being present in such prominent and leading information technology company. Visiting various ICT enabled businesses would greatly increase the knowledge and innovativeness of every student that joined the subject. From here the student can actually experience their involvement in actual companies that provides the quality service where lots of people are now depending on and enjoying it in this generation.

            But why is it important to conduct such activities in the field of Information Technology? It’s because with the introduction of computers, the business world was changed forever. Using computers and software, businesses use information technology to ensure that their departments run smoothly. They use information technology in a number of different departments including human resources, finance, manufacturing, and security.Using information technology, businesses have the ability to view changes in the global markets far faster than they usually do. They purchase software packages and hardware that helps them get their job done. Larger businesses have their own information technology department designed to upkeep the software and hardware. Information technology has allowed businesses to keep up with the supply and demand as consumers grow more anxious to have their items instantly. Using information technology, businesses like Amazon are working to help busy consumers do their grocery shopping. Just a few clicks on a website allows the consumer to submit an order, and information technology sends that order to the company.

            It is obvious these days that Information Technology puts up a big impact in our generation. We can enjoy all the leisure of having the internet, gadgets and many more that involves Information Technology. With these reason, letting the students have their field trips and seminars would help them grow as an Information Technology experts.

            The subject Field Trips and Seminars has different models that can be chosen by the students. But first let me explain to you what a model is. A model is structured that is followed in a field trips. It states what kind of field trip we are having, how many trips and seminars and the number of hours of interpersonal skills and where the places that will be are visited such us inside Mindanao or outside the major island.

            The first model is Model A. it includes 1 major fieldtrip which is outside Mindanao, 2 minor fieldtrip that will be held here in Mindanao, 1 national seminar and 2 hours of interpersonal skills.

            The second model is Model B. it includes 1 major fieldtrip outside Mindanao, 2 minor fieldtrip here in Mindanao and 2 hours of interpersonal skills.

            The last model is Model C. it comprises of 3 minor fieldtrip which is also here in Mindanao, 4 seminars with a total of 16 hours that will be held only here in Mindanao at 2 hours of interpersonal skills. This model is limited here only in Mindanao.

            From the models above, we have to choose only one that will be done through voting. Just by looking above you can depict what model is the more expensive than the other and what is more exciting than the other.

            From the three models, what do I preferred FTS model. Frankly speaking, when I discovered that the Modal A trip will cost about Php 21,000, I felt bad because of the price. That amount of money is not easy to find or earned. Model B is cheaper than model A and the cheapest is the model C. But then I realized that if I preferred to choose model C which is the cheapest. I thought that there is no big IT companies here in Davao City that can be visited. Because of this, discovering and learning would be limited for a student if the field trip will be just here in the city. Going outside the Mindanao is a good idea because leading IT companies mostly deployed in Manila or anywhere else in Luzon.

            Besides, the Field Trips and Seminars subject is just once in a lifetime experience, why not choose model A. I am more particular in the learning that I will gain despite of the price of the field trip. I am sure that the experience will be unforgettable and one of a kind.
